After months of trying out many other therapies to treat my injured back, which occurred whilst surfing, I turned to my last hope- Iyengar Yoga. My yoga instructor, Darren Evans of 'Yoga Central' offered a few one on one classes and within no time Darren had written up a Personal Practice for me to use whilst I was away competing on the Australasian Pro Junior Series.

The yoga has been of great benefit for me especially with my surfing. Manoeuvres that I had trouble completing, I now find easier because of the strength, flexibility and focus that yoga offers. This has been evident in my last surfing competition where I placed 2nd in the Open Women’s Division in the Billabong Winter Classic. Whilst I had started yoga to assist my injury and better movement in my surfing I found other awesome benefits such as relaxed, peaceful and clear state of mind. A huge part of surfing is mental and I have now learnt how to set myself in the right state of mind when competing. I truly believe in yoga for healing and how it offers a great addition to a balanced lifestyle.

My personal Yoga practice designed by Darren Evans has helped me to recover from injury and align my body back to its original state it should be. Having Darren guide me through the practice has helped tremendously. I am now back surfing twice a day after an injury and I now do the stretches to prevent injury more so than doing it because I'm injured. Most surfers I grew up surfing with daily have had at least one knee operation from the pressure surfing puts on their knees and / or body. Darren’s surfing background offers him an advantage in knowing which areas a surfer needs Yoga work on as he can pin point and find the problem areas. Darren got me back on track with Yoga and he took me through a special Yoga routine. Great to have advice you can trust and be guided through so you learn how to improve your Yoga. In my opinion Darren is an experienced teacher who has the skills to improve your yoga practice.
